James Palmer 1917-

James Palmer 1917-

Sunderland born artist studied at the Clapham School of Art, 1934-38, then Royal College of Art, 1938-40 and 1946-7, his teachers including Percy Hague Jowett.

An East Kent Art Society member, he showed at RA from 1946 as well as with the LG, NEAC, John Moores Exhibition in Liverpool and Leicester Galleries and exhibited solo on several occasions at Drew Gallery, in Canterbury. A rich colourist, Palmer earliest influences were Bonnard and Matisse, then Paul Klee, his later Dream Sequences series having slightly surreal elements.
